New Nutritional Cooking Workshops

This week, the first Aboriginal Families – Healthy and Nutritional Cooking Workshop was held at The Hub, Mount Druitt. Run by the Western Area Adolescent Team, nine participants from western Sydney took part in a hands-on cooking workshop, learning how to make healthy meals and the benefits of a healthy diet.

During the workshop, the group participated in a number of activities such as busting dietary myths, learning about mindful eating and sharing their own health experiences. They were joined by guest speaker Kate Sewell from The Cancer Council’s Eat It to Beat It program who gave a nutritional talk on healthy serving sizes, portion control and tips for packing healthy lunches.

Another two workshops will be held this year on Monday, 30th October and Friday, 10th November in Mount Druitt. To expand the knowledge and resources available in our region, a Community Cookbook is being developed during these workshops and will be launched on Friday, 12th January 2018.
