Dr Kean-Seng Lim president of AMA (NSW)

WentWest would like to congratulate Dr Kean-Seng Lim on his appointment as President of AMA (NSW). Not only was he awarded GP of the Year at the RACGP’s annual conference in 2015, he has also led numerous initiatives to improve health and well-being in western Sydney and nationally.

Dr Kean-Seng Lim is widely admired for his longstanding commitment to the provision of high-quality general practice care, his dedication to the community and to student training.

Walter Kmet CEO of WentWest said: “It is fitting that the AMA membership a GP of Dr Lim’s ability. His contribution to WentWest as a former Board Member, GP Leader, and indeed someone who sees the value of the Patient-Centered Medical Home and Quadruple Aim is something primary care as a whole will be the beneficiary of as a result of this appointment.”

“I am looking forward to representing the interests of the wider medical profession in NSW and the challenges that will bring,” said Dr Lim. The full media release is available on the AMA (NSW) website.

National Palliative Care Week

Next week is National Palliative Care Week, an annual initiative to raise awareness and understanding about palliative care. This year’s theme, ‘What matters most?’ encourages Australians to plan ahead for their end-of-life care and discuss this with their loved ones and health professionals.

In western Sydney, a new partnership with palliative care providers Silver Chain Group and Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) will give patients the option to receive enhanced expert palliative care services in the comfort of their own home, including assistance with daily living, respite care and ongoing support.

More about the Silver Chain Group, including how to refer patients can be found on the WSLHD website.

ELDAC supports improved palliative care

To support quality care at the end of life, the Australian Government Department of Health is funding the End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC) program.

ELDAC aims to connect people working in aged care with palliative care and advance care planning information, resources and services. The Five toolkits ensure meaningful and practical materials are readily available to health professionals and aged care staff providing care to seniors in our community.
