WentWest US Study Tour and Masterclass – Delegates Announced

WentWest is very pleased to announce the delegates joining this year’s US Study Tour and Masterclass: Denise Whitehead, Dr Natalie Cochrane and Tim Perry. They will be travelling to the United States in June for a structured tour of US west coast based Primary Care practices, exposing those attending to Patient Centred Medical Homes, practical learning sessions and mentoring.

Denise Whitehead has been the Practice Manager at Riverstone Family Medical Practice since 2011. She grew up in Sydney’s west and has lived in the northwest most of her life. She originally completed a Bachelor of Science and then a Bachelor of Education and started her working life teaching in TAFE and high school. Denise then worked in various hospital supplies, pharmaceutical and medical device companies for over 20 years before moving into medical administration. She has completed the Diploma in Professional Practice Management through the University of New England. She is a current member of Australian Association of Practice Management.

Dr Natalie Cochrane, FRACGP, Dip Child Health, BMedSc (hons), has been a GP at Mount Druitt Medical Centre for the last five years since completing her fellowship. She is a member of the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Diabetes Task Force and ACI’s Diabetes and Endocrine Network. Natalie has strong interests in chronic disease management and preventative care and how the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care will improve patient care.

Tim Perry grew up in country NSW, completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in Brisbane then moved to Sydney “temporarily” (30 years ago) to complete further studies. He owned and operated a community pharmacy for over 17 years. His pharmacy was focused almost entirely on helping older people stay as healthy as possible. After selling his pharmacy he began working more closely with WentWest and is proud to be working with them to improve utilisation of the unique skills of Consultant Pharmacists working in general practice.

WentWest has supported clinicians and managers in western Sydney to experience world’s best practice in primary care for well over a decade. We continue that commitment in 2019 with the announcement of funding for these three people from western Sydney. Congratulations to Denise, Natalie and Tim and thank you to everyone who submitted EOIs. We’ll share their impressions of the US study tour in Weekly Update later in the year.

Productivity Commission’s Mental Health Inquiry Survey

Western Sydney Primary Health Network has been consulting with the western Sydney community to assist in a submission for the Productivity Commission’s Mental Health Inquiry. This submission will be informed by community consultation and an analysis of key regional data and international evidence.

On Friday 1 March we held a workshop at our Blacktown office which was attended by consumers, carers, stakeholders and health care professionals who provided valuable input and participated in this important initiative.

Participants can remain anonymous and by completing this survey you will be supporting a stronger network of primary and community mental health services in western Sydney. The survey will close on Monday 25th March and is restricted to only one survey per device.

My Health Record

The estimated 17 million Australians who chose not to opt out of the My Health Record are now able to access the system if they have a MyGov account.

The Australian Digital Health Agency has announced the records are available following a three week-long reconciliation period after the opt-out period ended on January 31.

Find a Psychiatrist - Online Search Directory

Find the right psychiatrist with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist's (RANZCP) newly revised search directory. The directory allows users to search for a psychiatrist in their area of Australia or New Zealand. All psychiatrists included in the directory are Fellows of the RANZCP. Data is updated by the individual psychiatrists and also provides indicative wait times for a first appointment.
