Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an Australian-wide initiative to raise awareness of early detection of breast cancers. With areas of western Sydney still experiencing low rates of breast screening, a mammogram can pick up breast cancers that can’t be seen or felt. Research shows that patients are more likely to have a breast screen if recommended by a health care professional.

BreastScreen NSW have over 150 locations available in NSW and patients can call 13 20 50 to book their free mammogram. In western Sydney the BreastScreen trailer will be offering screening at North Rocks Shopping Centre from 4th to 26th October. The recommended breast screening age is from 50 to 74 years, women aged 40 to 49 or 75 and over are also eligible after discussing their screening needs with their health care professional.

Register for the immunisation bike competition

On Monday we launched our successful Immunisation Bike Competition, which is aimed at increasing western Sydney’s childhood immunisation rates.

Every child who receives their 12 month, 18 month or 4 year-old immunisation in participating practices during the competition period will be eligible to go into the draw to win a bike and helmet. Register your practice today by completing the Expression of Interest form.

Seeking GPs for aged care forum

A co-design forum is being held on Tuesday 6th November to:

  • Understand gaps and barriers experienced in delivering quality care for residents in nursing homes in western Sydney
  • Jointly plan and develop potential solutions to improve the delivery of primary health care in nursing homes in the region
